About Me
Hello! My name is KC Perley, and welcome to my ePortfolio! I have been working in education for over half a decade, with three years spent teaching in the Corvallis School District, primarily as a high school social studies and AVID instructor. For the past six summers, I have also taught various STEM courses for Umpqua Community College’s Upward Bound program. During this time, my perspective towards technology in the classroom has significantly shifted, going from only necessary technology integration to attempting to go entirely paperless. But, of course, this was right before the world turned upside down. Or, for better or worse, outside to inside!
It should come as no surprise the global pandemic presented an enormous challenge, requiring all educators to pivot to online and digitally supported teaching quickly. My colleagues relied heavily on me during this time – they were aware of my exploits to go paperless. I soon became a Technology Building Coach, and I started looking at Western Oregon University’s Master of Science in Education EdTech program. I started the program in Summer 2020 and am finishing the program one year later with an Instructional Design Certificate. This portfolio represents the Herculean task of completing this program in just over one year while teaching full-time during a pandemic, both online, hybrid, and in-person.
However, this portfolio also represents a shift in my career goals, objectives, and outlook. The past three years have been hectic as a new teacher; I have not had adequate time to reflect on my career outlook as an educator. The EdTech program, along with the pandemic, sort of forced me to slow down and realize the variety of passions and interests I have when it comes to Education, Technology, and Design. It is my hope that this portfolio represents those pursued passions and interests. For example, all the photos used on this website were taken by me!
